Talk about the Boston Red Sox

Kevin Youkilis Makes #3 of the Best First Baseman of 2010

Four out of the top five (first baseman) come from the American League. There is only one slight surprise on the list, the rest have been mainstays over the past few years. This may be the only position where the top five will remain the top five all season. The number one and two guys should be there all season barring injuries.

3. Kevin Youkilis, Boston Red Sox: Youkilis is on pace to have his best season ever. Every time you turn around this guy is on base. Youkilis’s on base percentage is an insane .453, which is second in all of baseball. Youkilis is hitting .324 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI’s which all lead the team. Youkilis is batting cleanup this year after Victor Martinez and before David Ortiz. The Red Sox three, four, and five may be the best in baseball now that Ortiz is back to his former self. The Red Sox can thank Youkilis for the resurgence of Ortiz because Youkilis is on base so much, which makes other teams want to throw strikes to Ortiz. With Youkilis always on base, the Red Sox have a good chance to score a lot of runs and compete in the tough American League East.

Youkilis nominated for Clemente Award

Even as he has emerged as one of the best all-around players in baseball over the last couple of seasons, Kevin Youkilis has been equally consumed with an art that has nothing to do with coming up with a clutch hit or making a diving stop in the field.

The man known throughout New England simply as “Youuuuuuuuuuukkkkkkk” spends much of what could be his down time making a difference for kids in need.

His acts of kindness have not gone unnoticed, as, for the second successive year, the Red Sox have nominated Youkilis as their candidate for the Roberto Clemente Award.

Youkilis shoots for Aaron Award repeat

Kevin Youkilis has a chance at a repeat. Along with teammates Jason Bay and Dustin Pedroia, the Red Sox corner infielder is among 90 Major Leaguers who have been chosen as finalists for the 2009 edition of the Hank Aaron Award, an honor Youkilis claimed last season on behalf of the American League.

The Hank Aaron Award, presented by Sharp, is awarded annually to the top overall offensive performer in each league, with three nominees per club. Created in 1999 to honor the 25th anniversary of Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record, it was the first major award introduced by Major League Baseball in 30 years.
